    Shorty Mosin

I put this together from a barreled receiver and an extra stock i had laying around. The barrel is at 16.25 inches, i am going to have my gunsmith crown and put a front sight on it.

I seriously suggest a slip on recoil pad before you shoot it. That thing it going to beat the chit out of you..

That thing would look perfect next to a saddle and a horse. I'm pretty sure the fireball would kill the horse, though.

You should put a shortened M44 bayonet on it.

I was also thinking of chopping a Mosin for a similar project but I wanted to use a 7.62x54 to 7.62x25 chamber insert like the ones from sportsmansguide .

The chamber inserts from Sportsman's guide are aweful. I would advise not using them.

Since x54R headspaces off the rim, that's not the best idea. Ideally you'd take a Cerrosafe casting of your chamber and then have a machinist make a chamber insert for you.

I used a metal cutting jig and a hacksaw, not the best, but it worked. I am going to have my gunsmith recrown it.

The wood was not bad, i used a handsaw, wood file, and some sand paper. First i measured then cut, then removed the metal hard ware and copied the ends till the metal caps fit, i reformed them on a piece of pipe using a rubber hammer and a hammer and punch. It was a little hard to fit, because the wood is thicker further down.

I used a dremel to make a cut for the forearm band spring. I planned on using a router to cut a slot for the metal sling loops, but the practice cuts on the cut stock made me decide otherwise. I cut and welded the cleaning rod to the right size.

are you going to put a front sight on it, if so how?
I am going to have my gunsmith put in the old front sight.

    Re: Shorty Mosin

for the front sight, the upper part drifts out, but the lower part seems permanently on the barrel, is it welded on or pinned on or is it part of the barrels metal?

    Any clue?

    Looks good!

    Re: Shorty Mosin

barrel length is always measured from the bolt face to end of barrel.
