I’ve been holding on to this kit forever and finally decided to get the receiver for it. I decided on Recreator Blank SEVENTY-4 Receiver with the Russian markings.

The real only super tiny detail that I wish I knew (it’s been a while) was the receiver trigger hump. The pictures below will show the difference. Other than that, the receiver is really close to the factory receiver - at least based on my less discerning eye. I’m sure a few of you will notice more things.

AWESOME! When are you starting to build it? What are you waiting for? What barrel are you using? Two rivers is really doing that techno paint justice based on what ive been seeing... Cant wait to see it done!

i have a few more pics to upload. Looks like I'm limited to only 5.

As far the build or the builder, I'm still undecided. If I do get this build, I would want to ensure all the tiny rivet details are as authentic as possible. I also prefer not to refinish the entire gun, but rather have the receiver be matched to the existing kit. That means warts, tiny storage scratches - yep..all of those preserved.

The barrel was another point of review I needed to make. I am lucky enough to have both BlueJack’s last round of Tula AKSU barrels as well as a new Bulgarian AKSU barrel.

Off the bat, BJ is the closest match to the original Russian. There are still differences as seen in comparison photos below. BlueJack is in the white, Bulgarian is blued. The Bulgarian is ever so slightly longer than the original Russian and has a taper on the business end, compared to the original Russian and BJ, which are flat. Both barrels have similar crown compared to the original.

On the chamber end of the barrel, the original has a larger circumference and goes further out towards the rear sight block. BlueJack starts to taper off almost immediately after the trunnion. Tiny detail that no one would really notice

As far as the kit itself, I received with a bunch of 1986 kits that I regrettably sold off a long time ago, but decided to keep this one.

It’s all complete, unfired, with all the serial numbers matching.

That's a nice kit! You did well to keep it. I would love to have an '85. I've currently got an '86, and have plans to eventually get a '92.

Nice! Did the 92 Tula Krinks came out with side optic rails? I know my 86 and 85 didn’t have them.

Thanks... it is. I know you can't see it, but the barrel is already installed. It's got a later version Bluejack barrel.

You have the makings of a real primo build there. If you have any doubts at all about your own experience or ability, have Two Rivers do it. You'll be well pleased. I sent them an unissued condition pre-2005 Bulgarian AK-74 parts kit and a serial matching Recreator receiver. The build that came back is perfect in all respects.
