    question about vented Krinkov grips

I recently purchased a set of hand guards from an overseas member. I am very happy with my purchase, and he was great to do business with.

My question has to do with the finish on the Handguards. Is this normal? There are no stamps, so probably unissued. Have they been stripped? Are they legit? Like I said I'm totally happy with them either way.20160403_181537.jpg

That's what I was afraid of. Who is the member that Does refinishing? Do you think it's worth restoring? Its going on my kvar gun so it's not super important that it's accurate. I just thought at one time these weren't that common.

Best person to find is Z-recto. You should be able to PM him through here and the other AK site.

Having said that, I would just leave it personally. Russian wood looks great when new, but quickly gets scratched, looses its finish, etc.

Yes, Zrecto does refinishing as does Johnny5.56. Or pick up some shellac and DIY.

I do think they are worth restoring. They look like nice handguards and even scratched up coated handguards look better than stripped handguards IMO.

There are plenty of refinishing threads to do it yourself if you search. I refinished a set last week and they came out beautiful. Its much more rewarding to take your time and refinish them yourself. Its a plus that your handguards are already stripped, that's a step you don't have to bother with. You will never get tired of seeing the furniture you refinished on your AK.

The problem is that I don't like most people's version of "Russian red". Its to much red in my opinion. I want more of the traditional color. If any body has a link to a traditional Russian refinish, please post it. I'm not afraid to do it myself, it's just getting the color right. Z_recto has the colors down.

Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.
