Want to buy a high quality Galil in 5.56, where should I look? Comments, website links, or contact addresses will be appreciated.
Thank You. Sent an e-mail earlier. Have a few more questions after reading posts regarding stock fit in folded position, head spacing, and mag feed.
O/T Saw a used Valmet in a gunshop this afternoon, it looked decent except for the butt stock, totally did not match up with the forearm, in fact I wonder if it was a replacement for an original folder to convert to fixed. It was priced at $995.
Valmets did not have matching furniture per say. Buttstocks on some were wood with plastic hand gaurds. The price you quoted is a steal on any Valmet model. Even more of one if it's not a 71 series.
I looked it over pretty close, saw no markings referring to 71 series. How would I discern this?Even more of one if it's not a 71 series.
The M71's have a rear sight like an AKM, while the M62/S and te M76 series have the rear sight on the back of the dust cover.Originally Posted by Saltwater27
Thank you, the one I looked at then is not a 71.
Obviously I know nothing about Valmets. I was shooting skeet and talking AK's, and Galil's, a guy says he saw a great Galil at a certain gun shop. After shooting for the day I stopped in at that shop and it was the aforementioned Valmet.
I liked it except the buttstock, looked like a POS. It was a veeeery shinny black plastic/poly of some type. The forearm furniture was black poly in a finish resembling parkerized.
Supposedly J & G has Galils on sale for $699.
I would buy one of those.
I would call J & G and verify that it had a bayonet lug if that is important to you.
Here is a link that mentions this price from a J & G flyer:
"Go sell crazy somewhere else... we're all stocked up here."

That handguard is standard on the M76's, and is one of the best out there.
It's probably a 76 in .308, with 6 mags! Wouldn't I like to stumble into that for under a grand.
It is definitely .223 I wanted a .223 in an AK conformation to shoot alongside my AR.
I had intended to go buy that Valmet tomorrow but since reading Templars post, hmmmm, I don't know. I could re-stock it, but 20 years of shooting, well ya know what I mean. However the finish looked NIB.
I think I will check out the J & G Galils that Oswald posted about.
Thank you all for your informative input.
