I wet lube my AK rifles. With the exception of the firing pin. That should be bone dry. Just one drop on the extractor maybe once and a while. In an extreme situation I would use a grease, but I don’t see that happening personally. I use hoppes cleaning cloths that are pre-saturated in oil. They clean nice and leave that oil film 👍

    Old Soviet philosophy.
Grease during summer, oil during winter.
You also need to understand Russian winters are not what we experience here (most of the states anyway).

German guns were pretty quiet during the Russian winter.

If you discovered frog lube why ask? Any lube will do but some prefer more crude methods. I'm pretty sure Robski has an entire video of how to clean and lube an AK on the Youtubes, or just use your frog lube.

I suggest that you watch how Frog lube works over a long period of time. It may be different on an AK due to it's increased tolerances, but I've had incidents on at least two of my guns where Frog lube hardened and gummed up two pistols and a rifle of mine so badly that they wouldn't even operate correctly.

From my experience, Frog lube seems to work well enough on a firearm that is shot frequently, but applied to a firearm that sees only occasional duty, it can harden and really gum things up. In my case, after a thorough cleaning and removal of Frog lube, and applying good old fashioned gun oil and grease, my pistols and rifle are back to working flawlessly.

I just use whatever, to include trans fluid occasionally.
    TRAAK's and JeepFan like this.

Motor oil should also be a good candidate due to its properties. I really don't like liquid type lubes during the hot months because they all tend to run and eventually the gun will be dry.

Grease is the only lube that I will use on my AK's.Both my Saiga and GF3 show very little wear and no tail deformation. They both have in excess of 4000 rounds each.

In his defense when he posted the thread it was a month before he said he discovered Frog Lube.

I found this on a site with a lenghthy negative posting on FrogLube, thew following falls in line with my beliefs.

"People tend to use WAY to much of "anything", usually way beyond what the directions say, and then complain that the magical lube of choice, is a failure.
