    Been mulling it over for awhile...And need to have a Gold AK

    I would really like to do a replica of the Gold Iraqi AKs

    I don't want to just gunkote it. Anybody know where real plating could be done and a cost?

    I have an extra Yugo UF kit that would be the perfect candidate.

    Guncote works good. There used to be a company in FL, Checkmate Guns that did gold plating and were known for their master polishers. Looks like their website is gone for some reason www.checkmatecustom.com. Here is their other info............
    Checkmate Custom Gun Refinishing
    290 Champion Drive, Brooksville, FL 34601
    (352) 799-2986

    and here is mine again.

    You need to get some Tabuk markings cut into the kit too, to make it authentic (or was Hussein's gun a Yugo and not a locally made Tabuk?)

    I want to forget mistakes they've helped me make;
    Its better to be broken, then to break...

    Did you notice the pics of my boys pissing on Saddams wall? And the Arabic writing on the leaflet on the left? It's the back of some "CIA money" dropped to say surrender from the 1st Gulf war.
    Its kinda my trophy...."we got your shit ,Saddam" picture!!

    There are a couple of versions of the gold ansd silver AK's I've seen. I have 3 guns (2 silver and 1 gold) here. The silver ones are plated and look almost chromed. But they're really cheap looking. Almost like something die-cast or molded, like the front sight base. They look like toys, really. I would NEVER fire them. The gold one is just painted gold as if spray-painted but is a real Romanian.

    In a few days when I can slow down a bit, I should get some photos going. Will also have two versions of the Iraqi Tabuk, also.

    http://www.ahlmans.com/ is located like a half hour away from me, they are very good people. I am DEFINATELY getting my plating done here, should i decide to do this

    edit to say: I'm not sure of their attitude's towards ak's, or whether they would work on one... I'll see if I can get a call in sometime today and update this....
    You can crush them, you can bruise them, but you'll have to answer to them
