You guys with C&R's; can you tell me the process?

Seriously thinking of getting a Curio and Relics license; can you tell me the hoops I'll have to jump through? Or is it a pretty painless process? I'd appreciate any help; thanks.

I saw this thread just last night...

    http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=14&t=174340

I went to the BATF's website and ordered the paperwork packet...sounds like the whole process takes about a month or so (maybe longer with the Holidays) and is fairly simple.

I have to hide too many purchases from my wife as it is...this is just gonna make it worse.

Fill out the forms and send em in and get a log book.Pretty simple really.Finding out who was the CLEO (county sheriff for me)took two phone calls and was the hardest part of it.

Call the BATFE, ask for the C&R or FFL03 packet. Wait a week, fill it out, add a $30 check and $.4x stamp (whatever they cost now...) and wait. Somepeople have taken as little as 11 days. If you can pass a BG check for a rifle or handgun purchased, GENERALLY you can pass the CRFFl03 BG check.

As soon as you get the form back (it's a nifty piece with a big long license number and your name and address on it) check it over VERY WELL. Then, make copies. Sign the copies in RED or BLUE ink. DO NOT SIGN the origional. Put the origional in a firebox. Send out the copies.

While you are waiting for the license to show up, make your list of desired acquisitions. Look at the bank account.

You will be spending time on this. I kid about the divorce lawyer... but just in case get a divorce lawyer on retainer.

It's pretty painless. Just fill out the forms and remember to send one copy to your CLEO.

My check was cashed late August and the license was issued Dec 1st. (Actually, it's stil in the mail)

Things seem to have slowed up at the ATF.

Getting it is easy, amending it can be a PITA. When I wanted to amend my license due to moving, they were inflexible on the fact that they needed a copy of my apartment lease. This was not needed to initially get the license, and despite the fact that the C&R is not a business license, they were adamant that they had to have the lease.
Since my lease is none of the BATFEs business, and was not necessary to get the license less than two years previous, I decided they could stuff their license. YMMV.
