Not a FAL, but certainly its older brother. Here's my Luxembourg contract FN-49 in .30-06. The sling is Belgian made and marked, and 1950s dated. The sling appears to be patterned on the U.S. M1907 sling, but the hardware is made of copper alloys rather than brass or steel. The rifle is in original excellent condition, as most of these tend to be today.
There were about 6,000 Luxembourg contract FN-49s delivered. Serial numbers started at 1001. The highest serial number I've seen is 6337. All are marked AL on the receiver. Belgian FN-49s were marked ABL and were far more numerous. Since they were capable of full auto fire, they are not common in the U. S.
