    Detroit Diesel

I've always wanted a 2-Stroke Detroit Diesel, so i finally pulled the trigger on one last night. It's a Silver Series 3-53T. I have plans to put back it up with an NV5600 Transmission, and put it in a 1954 GMC half-ton pickup. I imagine it will be several years before it's ready to roll, but at least i've secured the heart of it. One cool thing about this one... as small as it is, it's got a Jake Brake on it.

It arrived yesterday. So far, i've just been cleaning the old sludge off of it. I removed the auxillery air compressor off the back, and well as the oil filter. I'm going to cut the filter open to see how it looks before going any further. Unfortunately, i'm going to have to swap out the flywheel housing. I expected it to be an SAE 3, but turned out to be an SAE 4. That means, it won't bolt up to any transmission i'm interested in using. Not too big of a deal, but certainly several hundred dollars and a few hours of my time.
