Colt To Cease Commercial Rife Production.

Although the article doesn't say it, I can't help but to think this is also because of potential law suits they face after a shooting.

Probably a good time to go grab one, boys.

Similar to what they did to the civilian market a long time ago when they drove a lot of people away?

    Cliff Note:
Margins are down, inventory is not moving, Mil. and LE contracts to fulfill
Commercial AR line will now help fulfill contracts
Commercial AR line could reopen at some point once margins / demand recovers
No time or dates given as to when retail AR production will resume

Commercial production of pistol and revolver models that are selling will continue

I couldn't tell you how many companies produce nice quality AR15's but it's definitely a lot. I believe Colt AR's would sell if they actually gave the consumer a reason to buy, but they don't. Colt sells basic bitch AR15's at a premium price in a world where nobody wants a basic bitch AR15. Besides that, over the years the biggest reason to buy a Colt was mostly because it was the standard military issued rifle for so long, but even that is not what it once was. Colt is behind the times and their civilian market slump has been brought on by them and them only.

I have personally never owned one, but I could never understand why they were so much more money that any of the other good manufacturers. A well put together AR will always go bang.

    Why because it's the truth?

The fact is, they arent superior to a number of other AR15's readily available, and they most definitely are basic in their price range. They set a standard no doubt, but that standard has been exceeded for quite some time. We live in a world where the vast majority of people who buy AR15's add as much shit to them as they can (I'm not saying I do that). Unless you want to buy a rifle and then replace half the shit, Colt offers what, the magpul and trooper model? Lol.

The AR15 world is not the AK world. AR15's as we all know are much cheaper. So yeah, a 1000 dollars is a premium price for an AR you have replace a bunch of shit on. Oh and BTW I own 2 Colts if you really care to know. Yes, I enjoy them and will keep them forever. What does the number of Colts I own have anything to do with my opinion?

Fuck Colt... I don't care. They are great rifles but they are not the holy grail. I'm not a fan boy of any firearm manufacture except maybe CZ... a tiny bit.

I personally am fond of Colts. I believe thier AR's are of high quality and fairly priced. Premium for you and I apparently means two different things. You may consider it a premium price, I do not. I believe I have a couple in my sock drawer. You chose to use the word bitch when discussing Colt AR's. They certainly aren't for everyone and there are other choices out there.
The bottom line is, with soft AR sales, Colt felt they had enough civilian AR's in the pipeline to suspend production for a few months and concentrate on thier "bitch" Military contracts.
The vendors employee who leaked the FYI memo was fired. Colts excess inventory has been snapped up in a few days on the "scare". Apparently there are people who want them.

Just like Colt handguns. High priced and there are others out there that are just as good or better for less money. People buy Colt's are just paying for the pony. People buy something because of a name. People also buy something just because it is used by the military or LE. That does not make it the best. Military and LE have budgets, bureaucracy, and politics to deal with when selecting equipment. Colt probably quit making ARs to drive their value up and will start making them again just like they do with their handguns. Colt has the retro XM117E2 for $2599 while Brownells has the same rifle for $999.99 sale price and was $1397.99 regular price. Troy made one too and it was less than the Colt. So spend twice as much for the Colt over the Brownells just for the pony name. I think some people get too sentimental about certain brands and buy them for that reason.

I'm glad I "paid for the pony". I never plan on selling any of my NFA items so went with a Colt 6933 to fill my need for a shorty AR. I'll have it for the rest of my life and the damn pony looks nice gun is incredibly accurate to boot with no hiccups through about 4,000 rounds thus far
