Crazy thing is the sheep that run in, in a panic. One of my local WMs sold over $7000 in ammo when the news broke. My guy there that keeps me up on deals, said they won't be dropping prices. He was out of everything except 38/357. He also said that 7.62x39 was on the chopping block too.

Don’t know about you guys but usually I’ve always been able to find hangun ammo at least, at cheaper prices at walmart than any of the gun/outdoors stores, barring a very rare actual sale price. Here in the stl area for example, I could get 115 grain 9mm from Federal or Winchester for like $17 plus tax if not less per 100 rounds there. All the “gun” stores sell it for more like $20-21 plus tax for the same amount. More importantly I could get a 150 round pack of 124 grain winchester Nato 9mm for about $28. Short of buying in bulk at sg ammo and such, I couldn’t find aything that even remotely compares to that price point. So I for one am hoping that story isn’t true. Going to suck a bit for me otherwise.

Unless you're shooting a metric ton, in which case you'll be buying cases anyway the $3 difference once in a while doesn't seem like it's all that much more. The way you made it sound I was expecting like $40+ a box.

Depending on what it is my LGS sells between $7-$11 a box. And most stores here are about that price for 9mm. But I rarely if ever buy from them too. What am I going to do with a box? It's going to be shot in 2 min. Another box....4 min and that's a 100 rounds. Who goes to the range for 5 min? So I just order cases

Bottom line still is I could buy me 124 grain Nato right on the spot in small lots of 1-2 150 round boxes if need be, for still slightly less per round than I could buy me a 1000 round pack of the stuff on sale from sgammo once shipping was included, and I live only 1 state over from sgammo. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, great, but for me, and I’d bet quite a ton of other people, being able to buy in small lots for a lower price per round than a 1000 round pack, was certainly nice and made things easy. Yeah as long as sgammo keeps selling at similar prices it won’t be too bad. But with walmart gone I think most places will probably increase their prices, not decrease them.

These are the 'go to' vendors.

As far as what company to support for overall shopping, as said, there are few 'department' type stores anymore. They're not selling much of anything gun related anyway. It's going to be very difficult to avoid anti-2A businesses to do normal shopping.

The amount Walmart sells I don't think any gun store is going to notice and adjust their prices. They make so little money and sell so few that 3 of the 4 Walmarts here don't bother even carrying ammo. Not even knives.

If you're looking to save as much as possible. Do the math. Walmart is almost $10 more for 1000. And about a cent more per round

I hope you’re right about them not adjusting prices. I have my doubts though. As far as doing the math, what exacly we talking about? I remember doing the math that with tax I could get 150 rounds of 124 grain winchester nato 9mm (my preferred type) for $29 and some change. Let’s call it $30. Currently at sgammo, if I buy in bulk, I could get 1000 rounds for 205 and some change with shipping. In the past I think I’ve seen it a bit cheaper still, but bottom line not under 20 cents a round even if I buy 1000. Walmart I could get it for under 20 cents a round even if I just bought a single box of 150, and have it right then and there. If sgammo keeps their bulk price the same, it won’t be too bad. But it’s still an inconvenience when I don’t have a spare $200 laying around to buy in bulk. So yeah, I’m going to miss walmart having handgun ammo cause it just made more sense and I got it faster.

Maybe the market is different where you’re at but up here in the St. Louis area, I’d say walmart sells a decent amount of ammo from what I’ve seen, and in both 9mm and 40 s&w has decent prices even in comparison to lots of online stores.

Walmart was always just a last minute stop out to certain ranges over the years if a store was along the way and I was running low on something. Even then, every one I ever went to you had to get an employee dispatched to the ammo section to open up the cabinets, which usually meant waiting forever for the dumbest mouth-breathing retard in the entire store to show up and annoy the Hell out of me with their maddening incompetance. Other than that, when I actually go to a Walmart to shop for household stuff, I might blow through the ammo section for a few seconds just to check on prices and inventory, and I was NEVER impressed with either.

They never had shit, their prices suck, and this move by them is largely symbolic… just like Dick's. They won't be missed.
