AR better than AK in mud

Range365 article comparing AR and AK in mud. AR is better than AK in mud according to article. AR did great in sand against M1A and MAS. But I saw an article were the Army tested the M4 in sand and it did lousy, came in last to other guns.

Far from scientific, I like how on the ak, they mud the left side, then the action side, then fire with everything still caked on the action side. For the AR they mud the action side, flip it over so all the mud falls off, mud the left side, pick it up and shake it off before firing. I dont believe the AK is impervious to jamming or lives up to all the myths, but these videos are pretty useless to me because they dont portray any real life scenarios, If I crawled through the mud with any rifle, you better bet Id slam the stock on the ground a couple times to shake as much off before firing as well as wiping the ejection area.

I'm a huge M4/AR fan and I know the system much better than I do an AK, but we all know which one generally runs a little more reliably. For that reason alone, I'm not going to watch the video. Both rifles have their pros and cons, and both can be equally relied on. AR's are extremely well rounded, but in my opinion the AK looks cooler and runs a little better.

Oh great, another ak vs ar mud test....

But this time the ar emerges the clear winner! Why? Because there is no bias in the world at all. Nope. Not at all.

Like one article is gonna change 50+ years of real world experience.

I own many of both and have had issues with both at time. Been shooting the M16/M4/AR15 platform since 1985. My goto is that platform but if things go south either will be better then glocks and rocks! But the AK is way more fun to collect then teh M16 platform. Way more options and models.

This is old news and InRange has done many other surprising mud tests.

Here is cool one to watch,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xa8DHtSJjM&feature=youtu.be

I guess when AR vs AK vs cinderblock (or whatever other object) videos get boring there is always more mud test videos to be made. Entertaining stuff but biased one way or the other mostly.

Give me enough "scientific" mud and I can get any firearm to malfunction.

I'll continue to own and enjoy both my AKs and ARs but just to be sure I'll stick to knives when it comes to mud,

this is why I like the AK over the AR.
nothing is bullet proof, no pun intended.
    not everything is as simple.
it's the simplicity that allows for larger margin of neglect and still maintain a very high probability of proper function.
the AR is essentially a closed system so these mud tests are over blown.

If you read reports from tests performed by Army labs you see how carefully controlled the test conditions are. The composition of the mud, its texture, how long and how the rifle is introduced to the mud, etc.

Usually, the guy performing the firing portion of the test is given a short amount of time to scrape as much mud off as he can with his hands before attempting to fire, like any soldier might do if he'd just submerged his weapon in mud.

They don't just make muck with a garden hose and dump it on with a shovel. The test is intended to simulate a real situation. Same thing with dust tests and water testing.

I own 2 AR-15's both Colts and 2 AKM's one Maadi and one Polish kit build. Both AKMs will digest any and all type of ammo. My ARs don't function well with steel cased ammo. On a side note in my 19 years in the Army I never had an M16 malfunction with live ammo in many different climates and conditions. And yes Hohenfels and Graf get quite MUDDY.
And Panama very humid. Blanks was a different story.

I spent far less years in the military than you sir, but my M16A2 jammed up on the regular even though I spent half my enlistment cleaning the damn thing...
Wish I could been stationed in Panama, I lived there for six years as a child when my pops was stationed there, we were there for Operation Just Cause, I used to go play in the old shot up barracks on Fort Espinar as a child...
Sadly, they closed those bases in 99, same year I enlisted
