Buying rifle online vs in store

On the advice of the nice folks on this forum, I have decided to trash my IO Inc, and get myself a nice WASR...

After checking around, it seems like I can get one much cheaper online that at my local (more like closest) gun shop..

Is there any reason NOT to purchase online vs at the store? It's about a $150 difference, minus the FFL fees. Some of the online vendors also don't charge any shipping..

Also, I've found several online vendors all selling Romanian WASR10s imported by Century....the prices range about $100...should I just go with cheapest options all things being equal? Or are some online vendors better than others?

Will the online seller let you return the rifle if you don't like it ?

+1 ask for an unfired inspection period first.

I buy most of my stuff online honestly. The shops where I live charge about 100-150 more plus tax. Call it what you want, but I would shop online.

I like to feel, touch , look, smell and if need be taste what I'm going to buy. There's alot of shady dealers and junk out there. Alot of places use a STOCK photo. Not a picture of the actual gun your buying. Years ago I used to buy online and got burned a few times on things like bore condition and such where the seller outright lied. Buy local where you can see and hold what your getting for your money. It's your money.

I generally like to physically have it in my hands before purchasing, especially with AKs (a few others as well). It's not like buying the new Glock. However, I've bought online before.

Make sure you can return it. Other reasons not to buy online is if you're paying shipping and then FFL fee. Together it may not be cheaper than local

Around here, it's usually about the same price at the end of the day.
BUT, if you're gonna get a WASR online, get it from Atlantic. They're awesome with returns iffin you don't like it.

Same in my AO. I want to support local shops, but not at a 25~30% mark up.

Pretty much same here. Whatever you saved initially you lost on shipping and transfer.

Buying online works great if you watch for sales or specials, otherwise the LGS gets my money.

A small local pawn shop does $10.00 transfers, hard to beat his price around here for online purchases.

That's also an option. The OP would have to know his state laws. In Pa pawn shops don't have FFL and don't deal with firearms

Sorry to hear that, cruising the pawn shops for rare or bargain priced firearm treasures is a great pastime on slow weekends around here.

You should be looking at what the reputation and customer service is of any company before you buy. Online vs offline sales is less important to me vs a company that will deal with my picky ass. Many companies wont warranty a rifle with bad finish, crappy workmanship, or canted sights. The motto of “if it shoots and you can zero it’” is in the small print so to say. Do you want to save a few bucks and deal with a crappy customer service or spend a little more to get good customer service?

Im not gonna plug any company here but member thrasher had a great suggestion. Also, congrats on dumping that IO piece of crap!
