OT: Is there a Doc in the House?????? Broken little toe

I have this 4 lb rock that I took from a stream when my wife and I were dating on a trip to the mountains.
Well it was sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace.
I hit it this morning when I was carrying the baby girl in for her morning meal.
Hurt like a mother, even chipped a peice to the rock off  .
Well, it has been about 30 mins now toe is screaming at me.
When I wiggle the toes it hurts even more.
The skin on the bottom of the toe is very tight.

Now here is the question, from what I have read, there isn't much you can do provided the break was clean and toe is relatively straight (no broken bone sticking out of the skin)
So is there isn't thing that can be done?
I am gonna put a piece of gauze between the little toe and the one next to it and the tape the two together.....

And No the answer isn't MOVE since this can happen anywhere.

Having broken more than a couple....nothing can be done. Best thing to do is elevate it, with the toe resting above the level of your heart.

Sorry to hear about your accident. The first thing to do is elevate your foot, higher than your heart and ice the region for about 15min. Elevation and ice will minimize the swelling. Does the toe look deformed? If a severe break occurs the toe may take on an altered appearance-this might require medical intervention to prevent a non-union or malunion. You should also seek medical attention if you notice your toe is cold or tingling/numb- might indicate vascular damage limiting blood supply to the region. Stay off of it for a couple of days and monitor it, keep icing and elevating-you can ice for 15min a maximum of once every hour, don't over ice. If you have some crutches, use them to keep weight off the foot until you are a little more sure of what actually has happened-you could have just "jammed" it really bad. If it is fractured treatment is usually ice and to stay off of it, unless it it a complicated fracture or if the blood supply is compromised. Take care.

Take a 1/5 of "JD" twice a day for 5 days.
You won't even know what happened!!!!!

Really, not much can be done about a toe.

Ice. If you have a bag of frozen peas&carrots that works well. Ice will keep down the swelling and help with the throbbing. Ibuprofen helps with the pain.

/Not a doctor, but I've broken a lot of bones, BIG and small.

If it's broken that can cause the bone to heal funny. I would just elevate it and keep off it for a bit.

Why, what happens when you loose the nail? Doesn't it grow back?

I've broken the small toe on my left foot twice. The first time I went to the doctor - the second time I just did what the doctor did:

Pull it out straight (yes this will hurt like hell), tape it to the toe beside it, elevate and ibuprofen as recommended above.

I've also found that bourbon helps a bunch!

Ice, Motrin (or Lortabs) and open toe shoes... PS. don't "stubb" it.....

I had one of mine broken (split more like it) the length of a section between joints, in Iraq, when the rest got whacked.....nothing could be done, (except the above) but waiting.

    Sorry Bro.....

I am on 2 broken ones right now. I limp around like a damn duck.
    been over a month now.

Riding 1 dirtbike at high rate of speed and coming across a cut off wooden fence post sticking up about 8 inches from the ground.
Catching that with ya foot = not good results.

luckily i still have toes on that foot.

I kinda taped them together for a while. they also got split in between them,..big cut. that has already healed up.

no more goofing off on a dirtbike for a while
