    Century G1 receiver?

Would the century G1 receivers be good enough to build an imbel kit on? they're super cheap compared to other options, and since DS is outta stock and coonan doesnt make em anymore, you think they'd be alright to build on with a little filing or are they total garbage? I've been wanting to build another FAL lately, as it seems kinda lame to buy the tooling and use it once, plus my other one I built for someone else, and I'd like to have an FAL for my own use

Honestly I wouldn't waste the time... they might "work" but resale would suck.

Do you already have a kit ready to go?

No not yet, I was just throwing the idea around of building another, maybe by the time I get some free time, DS or somebody else would likely have some more receivers out.
I just noticed they had a bunch of century receivers on GB for $200, and it was making me consider one as DSAĒs ones are 400$. The reason the seller probably has a bunch of them is cuz nobody wants em though, so itís sounding like less and less of a good idea lol

Heheh. I'd say just bide your time for a good deal to pop up. It might be cheaper to snag a rifle than it is to find a kit and a receiver then put the time and effort into building one.

Ahh the 'good old days' when Century wasn't at the bottom of the heap. That dubious award is still in contention between Vulcan and Hesse.

    What 10G said.
Those receivers are not for the home builder or the faint of heart and one needs access to a machine shop to have any hope to make them work. Some of them are reported to have fatal flaws meaning there is no repairing them.

Check DSA's site daily and watch the File's MP. A DSA type II just sold there yesterday and I just sold an IMBEL two weeks ago.

All the ones I’ve had required re-machining to function correctly.

As the folks above said wait till you find a better option, you may even find a better receiver on gun broker. They are there but you may have to wait. An option is to go to DS Arms website, find the receiver you want and sign up for when they have them in stock. I did that for the izzy marked ones and had to wait a few months but was able to snag 3. Plus will give you some time to find a nice kit to build on.

I usually start 3-4 projects at once as it can take years to find all the right parts for different weapons.

I lucked into a authentic rhodie kit and searched for a receiver and DSA was the best cost effective receiver I could find.
I kept watching their website and a type 1 with no carry handle slot popped up so I went ahead and got that one because it was the only one they had at the time.
The kit went together well and I am very pleased with it.

Nice, something we don't see enough of around here, rifles on ranges.
    Congrats.
