    Ares defense MCR

One pet peeve I had about my belt fed AR is the bolt release catch didn't have a paddle.
They just cut the paddle off because a standard paddle will hit the upper receiver and not allow the upper to close.
Just one of those projects that I never seemed to get to.
I see Fightlite sells the extended release for $75 approx but no way was I paying that.
I bought a Seekins enhanced bolt release and heated it with a small propane torch and bent the paddle out of the way.
Now the paddle clears the upper and works as it should.
The Seekins bolt catch is pretty beefy and it took the heat well and didn't split or crack while bending it.
The paddle was straight up and now you can see how far I had to go to get it to clear the upper.
Brushed all the discoloration off and oiled it so now it looks perfect and works like it should.
The pics are in mock up stage to check fit and function.
The release paddle has plenty of clearance and you can slide two business cards between the paddle and the upper.
My first attempt at heating and bending what I think was aluminum but seems its a steel of some kind so I'm glad it went well.
