M16A2 Clone build questions “Side Project”

So I got a Nodak Spud NDS-16a2 lower waiting for me up in Alaska, and am wondering what’s the best route to go for the upper? Should I build one from a Stripped Colt M16A2 upper or buy the Capco and slap it on my lower? Not really big on ARs but I do like the Retro Models and thought I’d build one while the building is good.

Also wondering if any of you all have or know a good place to pick up some reliable USGI 20s

If any of you can give a few pointers in the right direction I’d be grateful

    Apologies if not allowed.

If it were me, I would build it from a stripped M16A2 Colt upper, as long as the barrel was in good condition.

Was thinking of putting a Faxon 20” gunner barrel on it if I did the Stripped Colt upper route, considering 18 inch as well.

My Idea is to build an M16A2 and put the old style M16A1 furniture on it

If your looking to do an M16A2 clone, A1 furniture will not be correct at all. The A2 furniture is miles better...slightly longer stock and made from a stronger material.

If I were building a custom like that with no intent to copy any service rifle, I wouldn't pay the premium for Colt parts.

So many other AR manufacturers with serviceable parts.

If just doing a generic M-16A2 clone, then I would roll with the Capco upper. Its going to be hard to find A2 parts as it is, and by the time you are done, you would have spent the same or more for possibly questionable parts.

So I ended up buying this M16A2 Upper, I’m not an expert when it comes to identifying the manufacture but I believe it to be made by Capco due to the P A markings. I’ve decided just to make it a straight up M16A2 clone with the correct hardware

Don’t want to be made fun of for being different:P

So next question, should I use an A1 BCG or go for a different option? Any input would be most appreciated

When I built my A4 clone, I found a nice NOS Colt BCG, so I would look for one of these.
