    M35 field jacket find

Found a 60's M35 field jacket with the subdued 24th Infantry patch.
The 24th was inactivated in 1970 then reactivated later.
    Mechanized infantry.

24th were some of the glory boys in Desert Storm too. It was "Storming' Norman" Schwartzkopf's 1st assignment as a division commander so he made sure they were out in front. It's been deactivated and reactivated a couple times since The Gulf War and is currently deactivated.

    They'll be back.

Yep they sure rocked it during Desert Storm for sure.
I like to pick up things like this when I find them.
Preserving history in some small way I guess.

Yes it is. When Desert Storm hit we were into BDUs. The O.D. Green was long phased out. And no Norman was not a Division Commander during that time. Try a 4 star General.

I'm well aware of who he was by the time GW1 kicked off, as are most of us.

OG107's("O.D. Green") weren't completely phased out until '89.

I was issued OD M65 field jackets, 2 each, when I first enlisted.

Fine piece of gear, for it’s time. I still have one, and since I dropped some weight it even fits still. Don’t wear it much, except around the property, because it makes me look like a bum.

I think an M35 jacket is the various high-collared tunics the Germans wore circa WW2.

I've got my Dad's M-65. JUST barely fits. I remember he had a green trenchcoat too but for the life of me, I don't know what happened to it.

That's exactly why I wear mine. It's a new fashion trend called "Derelicte"

Never got one issued, but I picked one up in OG back in day for shits and gigs. We got 'em in BDU Woodland Pattern in Basic and I although I went to OG-107's in my first unit, we got light and medium Gortex parkas instead of field jackets.

These things are actually decent kit. Needless to say at "Small Regular" it hasn't fit me in over 15 years. Fits the wife perfect these days.
