    InRange VZ58

Thanks to member JRSuds, I got the chance to shoot a nice example last week. I've heard a lot about these, but for one reason or another missed out when they were around and cheap. I was allowed to adjust the sights, and the target you see was shot off the bench with 60 rounds of Wolff. Damn fine rifle, and more accurate than a run of the mill AK variant.

My Grandfather's tribe do make some badass guns. Czechs definitely got their shit together.
I keep putting buying a VZ off for some reason... they are too nice.

I wish I would have grabbed some of the VZ58 mags we found in Iraq. I had no idea they were for a VZ58, or I would have grabbed them all.

Would you have even been allowed to bring any back? One doesn't see a lot of weapons related "war trophy" souvenirs from the Afghanistan/Iraq conflicts, and I seem to recall there were some pretty heavy restrictions on what could be brought back.

UPDATE: I see you said you brought some AK mags back, so I guess VZ ones would have been all right too. Sure would be cool to have some from there.

I have one of the early "All Czech" D-TechniK "sporters" that were made with military parts and original Czech barrels on a new semi-auto receiver. It's still in the single-stack configuration, which I will remedy at some point. Some nice "bring-back" mags would definitely add a lot of historical interest.

My immediate plans are to replace the black poly thumbhole stock set with Czech "beaver barf"....I like that look because it's really distinctive and unique, as far as I know only the VZ-58 ever used it. The early wood furniture is nice also, but not nearly as striking and attention getting as the wood impregnated resin.
