Shit, I purposely left my m64 I rewelded out in the rain to patina up the fresh metal to match the bfpu condition of the kit. I even took a piss on it once. I oiled up the moving parts once when built and like every few months since. It rides in truck in humid weather. Its finish is just rusted bluing and greasy wood. And it fuckin runs like a cheetah on cocaine.

A faster safer way to age metal and patina it is to coat it with mustard for a few minutes to a hour depending on how much patina you want. then just wash it off with soap and water and oil it up!

don't have any pictures handy but you can find plenty of pictures on any knife forum. Ive been doing it for years to all my carbon steel knifes and razor blades.
Vinegar will gray the metal and mustard will blue/blacken metal. Depending on how you apply it will depend on the pattern you get.

My WASRs, sure. But me, if I get wet all that would be left would be my red shoes.

I do feel a bit guilty, though, when I see Rob Ski and Paul out there laying in the snow showing us how to zero. :0

    Vinegar should work as well.

I've heard of that but instead of MUSTARD, I'm going to run the flashider up my wife's Bunghole. To give it that we'll used look and that old world European aroma.

When we up in CO last Summer, it was the Arsenal and Vepr that had the issues, for the most part.
In their defense, many of them were straight out of the box it appeared, and most of the failures were accessory related.
The Vepr next to me went FA on us when the selector lever didn't get back where it belonged after an attempt to tighten up the action on it. They tried to get it done during the demonstration instead of waiting for a break. First time we had 10 rounds in a mag too.
My mighty WASR out did its operator for sure.
