Did Ironwood make Century PAP M70 stock sets

Matt, I just bought a new Century PAP M70 rifle.

It looks to be a good rifle, but didn't come with a manual. It was imported from Serbia and then modified to take regular AK mags here. They had to install six US 922 compliance parts. The trigger group (3), pistol grip, and slant brake are all US made. The magazine and gas piston are not US made. So, I called Century to find out what the other US part was. The guy I spoke with didn't know for sure, but he thinks he was told that the buttstock and handguards are US as well. As you can see from the picture, they're a dead ringer for the original factory stock sets. There's only one US company that I know of that can produce such a high quality reproduction of the original and that's Ironwood. Can you confirm or deny if Ironwood manufactured the stock sets for this rifle? If it's confidential business information, I understand. I'd just really like to know if this stock set is US made.

Re: Did Ironwood make Century PAP M70 stock sets

    Bret,
    Thank you for your comments.

We have been asked many times about the PAP Yugo angle cut receiver. Our answer is that our M70 stocks will fit the PAP, but will not have the full support of the rear of the receiver, due to the portion cut off on PAP model. I have suggested that customers have the rear welded up with a filler piece, thus creating the original M70 correct receiver cut. We could do an angle cut M70 stock, but there would still be no support for the bottom fo the stock. I have seen a few of my customers go ahead and mount the std. M70 stock to the PAP, but have not had any feedback whether the stock is loosening up after firing.

I am not 100% sure if the set in the pic you posted was ours, The recoil pad used is not the same as ours, but, a customer could have installed a different model.

    Hope this info helps.

Matt, this new PAP M70 does not have an angle cut at the receiver rear. It's square. If you did make these stock sets for Century, I'm sure that you'd remember as the quantity would have been in the hundreds or more. Thanks!

Oh, my apologies, so straight cut, good deal.

We did manufacture approx. 2200+ Yugo M70 Birch butt stocks for Century back in '08 & '09.
They were cut to accept the original M70 recoil pad. The one pictured in the post has a commercial pad installed.
It may be that Century installed a commercial pad because they ran out of useable M70 original pads. Or, as suggested previously,
the end user installed their own pad.

It's kind of frustrating that Century has been unable to provide me an answer as to which parts in the rifle are US made. Would you have marked these somehow to identify them as being made by Ironwood or US made?

Aren't the PAP M70 stocks slightly different (length or something) than the standard M70 stocks? If so, Matt should know if he made something slightly different than his standard M70 stocks.

Re: Did Ironwood make Century PAP M70 stock sets

I took a closer look at the buttstock on my PAP M70 and compared it to one of Matt's buttstocks. The length of the PAP M70 buttstock is the same, but the hump on its top is actually slightly more forward and the rear of it is straight cut. The rear of the original factory buttstocks and Matt's buttstocks are concave a little. The buttpad on the PAP M70 is thicker at the top and bottom which results in the surface being concave to the shoulder. The surface of the PAP M70 buttstock is also smoother, more of a commercial look than military.

All of the Yugo but stock we made for Century either have an "I" or an "IW" stamped into the rear of them.
