Just bought a Molot VEPR RPK74

Hello boys! I'm new here, and I wanted some help.

My son(age 13) has seen Larrys "russian alpha ak" Vid on Youtube, and he has wanted to do a project AK74. He has been shoting my redjacket AK74, and he quite likes it.

I just bought a Molot VEPR RPK74, but I think I made a mistake in buying this rifle...

I checked with Luke over at Circle10, and he said I can't get a replacement for the VEPR's stock, and, well, I will ask you lot:what can we change out on this $900 rifle I just bought?

    Thanks in advance.

    Slant back or square back?
Square backs fit standard stocks, after filing down a little material on the tongue.
    Upper handguard is standard.
Lower handguard is the the one part that only fits RPK handguards.

Slant backs need an adapter for stocks and handguards to fit.

    Its a square back.

Heres what I wanted to change out.

    Krink type flash hidder
    Manticore extended front grip
    Replace the pistol grip
    Texasweaponssystems top cover
    Replace safety
    add cocking handle extender
Change shoulder stock to a "triangle" type stock

Like I posted, my son wants to trick out this rifle. I wanted to buy an Arsenal Side folder, but I got this VEPR new for $900.

    Did I make a mistake?

Oh, and I saw Nuclear Assault with DRI and Laviathen in Allentown PA in 1988.

Like I posted, my son wants to trick out this RPK.

    Did I make a $900 mistake?

Honestly I'm not sure on the RPK.

The triangle stock requires a lot of work if you want it looking and functioning like the original. The receiver needs to have a hole cut out and the latching mechanism installed. If you're looking at the aftermarket drop in one, assuming they're still made, then I'm not sure if it fits that receiver. Thicker receiver may not have the space to install the block that the stock is attached to. Also it makes the gun a bit front heavy. I have a Romanian RPK with a wire folding stock and it's not exactly a well balanced rifle.

And unfortunately this sub forum is a little slow so it may take some time to get answers

Triangle folder's a whole different trunnion. You want a real ALFA look, honestly CAA would be a safe bet.
Everything else is relatively easily do-able.
    Here's a pic from a recent thread.

Russian SSO in Syria with upgraded AKs and more modern gear, pictures etc.

I'd see if this handguard would work, I have no experience with railed handguards. Maybe E-mail the dude.

RPKs, are a little harder to work on. That said, you can get most VEPR 12 accessories to work with. That means you know have more hand gaurd and stock options.

You need to find a barrel now. But this is what a rpk74 looks like.

Go OG.... or start with an actual AK74
