Went to the Marine Indoor range this morning. I gotta say I love that place. What a clientele! I ran into an old shipmate from when I taught at FTC back in the 80's. The Gunsmith from my favorite local shop was there. And I got to watch a Delta Force guy work out with the most tricked out M4 I've ever seen. He had the grunts drooling all over it. It had some sort of trick gas system that used an accululator to power the gas piston and that kept the inside of the reciever clean as a whistle. I won't argue with success. It really ran well. He was upset that he only got 1" groups at 75' with it shooting it offhand. I'd have been real happy if I could shoot that well myself.
I tried out the PSL with the deeper radius in the ejector like in the thread above. Better but still not perfect. 60 shots from six mags. Czech silvertip. No bad stove pipe jams at all like it was getting. You know the type where you can barely wrestle the carrier back to clear it? I had four "soft" jams. Easy to pull the carrier back and flick it clear, let go and it carries home. One of those was mixed in with 50 clean shots. The other three failures all occurred with the same mag of ammo. Perhaps I have a bad mag? I marked it to ID it and I'll look into that.
    So it's getting better.
I didn't radius it as deep to allow the rims to clear as in the thread above. (Its easier to remove steel than it is to put it back.) I felt it was better to do it a bit at a time and see how it works. So I'll be deepening it another 1/64" and see how it does next time. I feel I have it close.
I also took the Polish UF I built from a flat. Damn, that is a fine shooting AK! I love that thing. It simply hits whatever you hold in the sight and functions flawlessly. I shot at a 4" bullseye at 75" offhand. No bracing and no rest. I could put all 30 shots w/i that bullseye firing as fast I could accuire a sight picture. About one round every two seconds in that rythm. I don't find the UF uncomfortable at all. Recoil seems mild. I'm really proud of that build. Eventually I plan to build a twin to this one!

Thanks again for the PSL info!

It is actually a counter-sniper rifle... intended to arm each platoon with someone easier to train than a sniper but more effective than just some guy spraying with an RPK. The rifle was intended for designated marksmen.

As to overheating, ALL rifles overheat. Period. My M-14 has a heavy National Match barrel on it and if you shoot it at the same distance you notice that it shoots higher the more you shoot it. It is the nature of a firearm.

I trust that the PSL can hit a man sized target to 800m, which is what it was intended to do.
    I want to forget mistakes they've helped me make;
Its better to be broken, then to break...

Krink you may want to add the new article in the latest Combat Arms titled "Insurgent Sniping in Iraq"

it's a pretty good article and like the above Combat Arms article, it's all color.

I've had mine a couple years now .. and ill tell you that your bolt rifle will be more accurate than the PLS..at long ranges..

The article is really not correct from what i have read in the past..
These rifles are marksman rifles true.. They were designed to engage
the enemy at extended distances, and provide cover fire so the platoon
can get in range and engage them with their AK's.. These guns were never designed as sniper rifles..

Also just to mention.. 98% of us who have the commercial variant
do not know or never heard of .. That the military PSL has a thicker
barrel .. A few were imported back in the late 80,s early 90's that
were true military PSL's .. if the rifle in the article is a true military
version.. it will shoot better than our commercial models,, especially after
    the barrel gets heated up..
i have fortiers other article he wrote on this weapon. i dug it out, it's in one of my shotgun news treasury editions. he knows what the gun was intended for and NOT a sniper rifle. the point of this article is that the insurgents are using it as a sniper rifle. good article.

as far as the barrel thing goes, from what i've read these guns are demilled and rebuilt on export receivers due to atf regs, the barrels are the same. comparing pics, the commercial version appears no different than the rifles used in the sandbox other than the rec. itself.
