does it fit and function in a SVD? I have seen 20's before but they were ribbed. Maybe a tool room example? is it plastic or metal? can you show more photos please.

    Looks to be bakelite.

I saw that sell on fb nice score. It does look bakelite to me too, if it's yours can you take it apart and get pictures of it disassembled?

I will take some better photos once I get done the long run of long work days. I have seen the photos of the bakelite 20 mag and to my recollection it is a true black polymer body. I will take it apart and see what the internals reveal. That photos above does it appear that the bakelite has chipped away to reveal the black polymer underneath?

The ribbed were an all metal mag for sure.

From what I understand, they were made for a full auto SVD, which of course never went anywhere.

The black is paint. Bakelite won't have polymer underneath

So I actually loaded the mag and it turns out it is a 15 round experimental and not the 20 I thought it was. A bit disappointing but now even more questions are raised! Has anyone heard or seen a 15 round Izhmash SVD mag before?

It is true black inside and out and has a plum follower. The floor plate moves more than I would like but it holds the rounds and I was able to load and unload without and issues.

There is a small section on the front bottom of the mag that got chipped off and a rough are on the rear bottom but otherwise in great shape.

maybe yours was mag number 8 in a trials where they handed out a bunch of em and said here ya go soldier try to abuse this. black polymer is usually good modern Russian stuff yet yours in chipped bottom of front and back. that's probably not easy to do break both the front and back where floor plate sits. front or back maybe if more brittle than other Russian black polymers ive seen but both? that almost seems like a torture test.

I know there were metal 15rd mags made as well. Never seen a polymer one personally, though.
