    1st NPAP AK

I picked this up today for a project gun. I'm not sure if I want to go full Magpul with the furniture or go with real nice wood. I'll make my mind up on the optic after a range trip. It a NC Star. I'd imagine a little bet better red dot if I decide to keep one on here. Years of experience with Ar/M-16 but not a lot with the AK so suggestions welcome

It was used, owner burned through 5 or 6 mags and then put it in the gun safe after cleaning and didn't touch it again. He sold it for money for something else he wanted more. I was only to happy to take her off his hands.

It looks nice how it is. Better optic yeah. Maybe change the grip out for something that's more comfortable if it bothers you. If the buttstock screw comes loose even one time put a drop of loctite or krazy glue on the threads and crank it down.

You can add rails to the wood handguards if you want laserlights and grips. Cheese grater top handguards are nice as well and will work on NPAPs I believe. Lower handguards for NPAPs are NPAP specific.

Thanks for the info on the stock screws, I checked them and they were in fact loose. I'll get the N/OPAP thing figured out before I move on any furniture, I'm not a big gadget guy that has to have can openers and flame throwers and everything else on my rifle but a good light is a handy thing. I have several Surefire scout lights, I'm sure one will find its way on there. Feedback is appreciated fellas, I'll get myself more up to speed on my AK knowledge, I promise.

Hopefully, that's a good thing. Does that particular model have any quirks or bad habits I need to be aware of ?

There is a bolt comparison thread just check google. The side rail that you have is weird and if you decide to stain it, the butt stock will come out blotchy. You might find metal shavings in the rear of your receiver after shooting from somewhere around your mag well but, it doesn't mess with anything. Also, the tail of the bolt might peen. I ended up filing mine a bit. That too wont mess with anything, as long as you file, where needed, if it ever gets excessive. That screw on butt stock is the most bullshit.

When changing your grip to a bakelite grip, you may need counter sink the hole in your bakelite grip to get the screw to work. You might be able to find a longer screw, that's more money though.

Most ammo will work with it. Anything you can regularly find will shoot out of it and they like steel case ammo. Regular steel, bakelite, Tapco, Promag, etc mags will work. Don't know about bolt hold open mags, it's not set up for that but, they are $10 so why not get one and see.

About the only thing you need to confirm is the bolt. The PAP was originally imported as a single stack, with a single stack bolt. Other then that they are nice rifles.
