    Centerfire Systems rusty mag deal.

Has anybody gotten any of these? I would think this would be the biggest thing since the SG mag lottery of '04.
So has any body found any rare ones? Are they just all Romanian with a coating of rust?

I've seen some unboxing vids of mags from this where the mags look almost new to some being so rusty the look like they've been at sitting at the bottom of the gulf for 100 years!

I must have gotten the lucky box, out of 48 mags all but 6 worked fine with me doing nothing to them, and only 2 mags of those 6 where unfixable. the biggest rust spots i had where a little bigger than a quarter. Mine looked nothing like centerfires pics, but nothing rare or even interesting in them all romy.

What makes it non-functional? Hole in the side? Bent all to hell? Rusted like buried in a swamp for 50 years?

On mine that were non-functional it was due to the follower being rusted in place. A couple a taps with a hammer and punch got them working.

Some were useable with no work. Some would not lock in the magwell. On some the follower would not go down far enough to hold 30 rounds. None of them had dents that caused feeding issues. There was some light rust and or pitting on a few but again nothing that couldn't be cleaned up.

Using common tools like a belt sander, Dremmel, files etc all of mine are fully functional and feed 30 rounds fine now. I'm in the process of cleaning up the exterior and baking on a coat of appliance epoxy.

Overall I'm happy with them. From what I can tell so far they look to be a mix of Romanian and Polish. I bought them knowing they would need some work and planned on using them as something I could beat the hell out of versus my more pretty or collectable mags. I'd say try some. They make for a cheap fun rainy day type project.

The biggest issue with a non-fixable mag is when a rust bloom occurs between the magazine body and the side plates. This bulges the magazine sometimes both inside and outside. Jamming the follower and also the bulged sideplates preventing insertion into the magwell.
Often it requires so much grinding the sideplate is gone or ground through etc.

It just depends on where the rust occurred.

Yeah this is about the only thing I don't bother to try and fix with ak mags, once its bulged between the plates like thats its time to take it apart for spare parts.
