    IMI AK Mags ?

I found some IMI AK mags for 10$ apiece. Are they worth the price ? Being made by IMI, I would think they would be fairly tough.

I had one. Never used it. Sold it along with a US Palm mag that I never used either. I don't have many aftermarket polymer mags now. Worked my way out of them. Still have a Fab Defense ODGreen window mag though. Just because it's kinda cool.
No......it's not that I'm up early....or late for that matter. It's just that I never sleep.

seeing how magpul is about to release their 5.45 mags which are in most likelihood would be lug-reinforced just like their 7.62 mags
IMI does in fact has rear lug steel reinforced, so i'd say maybe get some. at least as a collector's mag if anything else. i doubt we will see a lot of those.
but i think this is essentially same as commercial bulgy mags that have steel in feed-lips but not in the locking lugs. you decide which is more needed.
modern polymers are tougher and those lips will last longer but still will wear out with use in some not so distant future. i personally prefer steel in the lips.
but if cheap enough i'll buy anything as disposable item.

Just commercial stuff. I wouldn't be against someone giving these a thorough test but personally have no interest in them.

Aim Surplus. Surplus steel European mags

I bought 10 of the Yugo mags, may grab some of the polish ones as well. So far, I seem to like the milsurp mags the best.

They've proven themselves in continuous use around the world since the 50s. It's the only ones I buy, but to be fair I started when they were the only game in town

Bought two of the 7.62x39 ones about 9 months months ago. One I loaded and put with a loaded Toth tool one in a GI ammo can in an climate controlled room. These two loaded mags are my control ones to test if they can stand being left loaded. So far both the Toth and the IMI ones are holding up fine with no signs of fatigue or swelling. The second IMI I put in my regular firing rotation to test reliability. So far it is holding up fine and is left loaded when not at the range.

This being left loaded is what killed the PALM mag I was testing when it came out. Some of you will remember its feed lips failed and cracked when left loaded about three months. It so called metal reinforcement was exposed when I cut it in half and had the pictures of it posted on here and on another site for the world to see. I hear they are still pissed at me for doing that. LOL

ANY mag that I use I test, and test as hard as it would be used in a real world. So far I can say I like the IMI mags as they are very low maintence and up keep. Are they as reliable as metal surplus mags? Can't say that yet as I have never used them in combat. I will say I do like they don't rust easy and do not have the hand hurting raised spine.

As folks get old they appreciate no hurt and not having to spend time preventing rust. LOL
