I was able to research the loading data for a friend, direct from Russian factories. I didn't right it down, but they did. He was also able to get some original bullets, pulled from original rounds.
The other big variable is the bullet itself. Just a guess, but being a heavy subsonic bullet, it might be a different shape that is not sold in the US.
Well there is no direct bullet copy out there that is close to the Russian subsonic bullet profile (the bullet in and of itself is nothing terribly special though). It is difficult at best to get an AK to cycle reliably with ammo at subsonic velocities w/out a suppressor attached.
I started trying to do this awhile back, never really got too far but also haven't had time in a few years to devote to it at all.
Both were being sold on consignment from 2 different gun shops. One box is from the sandbox and the other from South America. They have different date head stamps. One box was marked as tracers and was cheap. The other was not cheap.
In US cartridge there is the same brand of powder which is in 7,62 x 25 mm TOKAREV round.
The durability of rubber pad is about 200 rounds with US rounds of course.
I curious to make something similiar to US/subsonic 7,62 x 39 mm round with use of .308 heavy bullet/projectile and pistol powder - it could me possible I think.
I watched a few youtube videos yesterday on this subject and I am as confused as prior to watching them.
Rob Ski and MAC performed some tests with the Brown Bear subsonic and the results were fantastic.
A bunch of other people did the same thing, including Mrgunsandgear and had really poor results.
One guy tried different rifle and pistol configurations and could not get either one to cycle.
The 2 mentioned above had absolutely no issues.
What's your take on the results?
Did the first two guys have a ton of luck with that ammo? Were their rifles/pistols overly gassed therefore worked flawlessly?
Is there more to that story and I have no clue about it?
