Yes., popular. But right now in the USA., not particularly plentiful in milsurp or in prices under 50 cents + per round.

Which is why you NEVER use this stuff in auto loaders.

Thanks for the heads up Bluejack! I should be able to buy plenty of it.

Yeah, the 3100fps for the Turk ammo! Man I wish I would've bought an ass ton when Wideners had it for $3.70 for a 70rd bandoleer.

Tested some different kinds of 8mm today with the FN 49...EG Steel, Yugoslavian (Lot 11), and Egyptian. All ran just fine with no issues, and I used Yugo ball the last time out to set the gas system.
I was shocked, and I mean SHOCKED at how well the Egyptian surplus performed. The Yugo grouped decent, the EG Steel grouped ok, but the Egyptian was impressive.

All groups were fired from the bench in sustained fire, and by the time I got to the Egyptian stuff, the rifle was getting hot. If I find more of this, I'm getting it.

I've only shot Turk, Yugo 1950's, Romanian, and Yugo M76 ammo and obviously the M76 was the best. For $100 per 900 round tin of stuff that is as good as any modern hunting ammo I don't know why I didn't buy as much as I could. The Turk however is my second favorite because it was friggin' badass! Dirty and 70 years old but my K98 loved it. $5.00 a bandoleer. Those days are long gone.

You have to understand, that while it may not be 'dead' yet, it is circling the drain, as far as cheap surplus is concerned. Surplus ammunition, by its nature, runs out eventually, especially if the nation(s) that are selling it aren't making anymore. 7.62x54r and 5.45x39 are about the only cheap surplus left, primarily because Russia and other contries still use this round heavily. There is .223 and .308 surplus still around (NATO still exists and uses them) but its expensive due to such popular demand, whereas the combloc stuff is still somewhat of a niche.

Lets discuss the previously-cheap-but-now-dead surplus rounds:
.303 British, this stuff dried up in the '90s... No serious military has used it since WWII
7.62x25, dried up in 2009ish IIRC... Again, the countries that made it stopped using it in the 70's-80's.
8mm Mauser, again, not used by anyone anymore, was bound to dry up.
No one has ever tried to make a direct impingement AK.

Hmmmmmmm, Romy. I hope someone will share the news when it hits, and I hope it's affordable.
I've recently decided that I'm Irish. I mean....why else would I love red-headed women and Irish whiskey so much?

Hopefully it will be somewhat affordable, but not like it used to be. I broke open one of my tins last night, and the price tag said $29.99.

Yes..., Wideners and SAMCO have had the Yugo M75 for a couple of years.
