Finally got back to this build tonight. Got the selector notches cut and the selector stop located and pressed in place. I used a 3/8 120 degree cutter. The notches turned out well i think considering my setup. To me they look pretty close to the pictures of originals. Here are my late night crappy cell phone pics

Overall length for the cutter is 3"

Question for those who have seen the real deal do the selector markings appear to be Punched/pressed in or etched by a machine or like most folks do nowadays with electro etching?

I have a Cyrillic Alphabet punch set but I'm not satisfied with the way the A looks it resembles the Arial font A and not the shape I've seen in photos.

You may want to contact Weaponmark on the Files. If I recall, I think he said that they were etched for the most part. I know some Yugos were electopenciled.

I've got a few Childers receivers with CNC cut markings that I'm going to weld over and etch with Weaponmark's templates.

I don't have a username for the files. I used someones templates over there for my trust info a few years ago. I got their email through a member here but i used the template once to test it on a scrap receiver and it dissolved after one use and etched a big square instead of the lettering. I was using salt water and my cell phone etcher. I haven't wanted to use anyones templates since. I bought a vinyl cutter after that and have made my own. Im sort of limited on the size i can make a template. The smaller i go the more the machine can't handle the small lettering
Top picture is of the cyrillic punch set i have and the bottom is electro etched with my templates and home made etcher. thats about as small as i can go and it to turn out decent.

Weaponmark is a member here. I've been using his stencils for a long time now, and they've always been great. There were a couple other guys with stencils too, but I don't recall their names.

I did have a similar experience as you though. Weaponmark doesn't do custom work so I found a guy that makes stencils for knife makers. I forget his name, but he was a really nice guy. I got the stencil (serial number for a bent flat) and it didn't stay in place and pretty much dissolved. It wasn't cheap either since it was supposed to be reusable.

Weaponmark's stencils are three layered- the stencil's adhesive side comes attached to a wax paper, and the top of the stencil is protected by a peel-away clear film. I've never had an issue with them slipping or dissolving. Even the little dot on the Yugo R stays put. He makes good shit.

Having said all that, do you do custom work for hire? I'm looking for some Soviet markings for a khyber build that are purposely "off" looking.

    Your marks look great.

yeah i can pretty much make anything if you provide the font and spacing if you want the stencil to do both markings at once. Thats how i make mine that i use so they are inline and etched the same depth. The program that the cutter uses has a trace tool that i can trace anything so if you find a particular font i can trace what you sent me. Or if its something i can get online i use a site called Dafont.com free downloads of tons of styles of font. I use thick vinyl. The stencils are one time use but i set the machine to cut about 20 at a time and pick the ones that turn out the best. Just let me know and ill see what i can do.
