Hollywood vs Reality(HEAT) FA fire (Would the bad guys eventually had problems?)

I pose this question from the full auto torture test videos places like IRAQVETERAN8888 have posted in the past.

Deniro takes brief pauses in between but Kilmer is pretty much firing mag after mag in FA till he gets shot so those guns were getting hot fast. Do you think at the rate of fire they were giving off one of the guns would have suffered a malfunction or would they have run out of ammo long before that?

If you look at real events one of the robbers in the North Hollywood shootout eventually his AK failed because of a stovepipe and he left it.

Yes I am a nerd hence why I post such discussions.

I'm a Heat nerd too. My Wife is from LA and when we first met I made her take me to all the Heat scenes. The armored car scene is right next to the staples center. Its the building you see in the background.

I just assembled a Colt 6933 pencil barrel to a "C7" upper for my first AR based SBR aka HEAT. We'll see how it runs.

I don't know about their guns but those poor bastards had to have blown eardrums after they opened up in the car.

That shootout scene is one of my favorites. Best viewed with the volume way up. I would like to think that since the bad guys were very professional they maintained their weapons but could also clear a malfunction if they had a problem.

Here is a good "making of" video, they talk about the shootout scene around the 4:08 min mark.

As far as the North Hollywood robbers, you would think with as much planning and training they did beforehand, they could have cleared the stovepipe. Thankfully not.

From when the History channel actually had shows on history.

The LAPD museum has some of items from the shootout on display.

    It wasn't actually a stovepipe:

North Hollywood Shootout | Crime Scene Database

Erroneously reported as a “stovepipe” jam, in reality a round had become jammed while feeding into the chamber, also trapping the spent cartridge from the previous round. He made an attempt to remove the drum and clear the jam, but ultimately discarded the weapon after failing to clear it, possibly due to being wounded in the left hand and forearm.

If you are moving that much weight, (Money, weapons, body armor and magazines.) that's what is going to get you.
Straight line distance to the get away vehicle looked to be 100 + yds, not too cool. Once they lose the driver and go off on foot.....
Honestly in such an event, multiple cars and drivers would have been warranted and much more prudent.
A blocking car/back up car would have saved the day.

I CAN TELL YOU ABOUT MACHINE GUNS BLOWING UP! Remember the FAL cooking off and almost cutting my finger off when the mag split? I do. That shit hurt! My finger still to this day will not straighten out or bend right.

I lived in LA for 8 years, watched the North Hollywood shootout live, and still own 2 rifles that I bought from B&B Guns (where LAPD got the AR-15s which ultimately ended the incident)... What most people don't know is that LAPD Admin tried to jam-up those guys for "acquiring" those rifles from B&B, and didn't "drop" the issue until the cat got outta the bag - as far as the public's knowledge/public opinion as to how the incident was ended...

    Gotta love lawyer-minded LEO Admin!!!....

There were a lot of rounds expended, but I would be more concerned about how they carried that many magazines before I worried about that many mag dumps.

I did appreciate the fact that they did do mag changes during the scene instead of going into Hollywood infinite ammo mode.
